Bicycle Tour Details

The Palm Beaches Marathon Festival has added an Inaugural Sunrise Bicycle Tour, the first of its kind in the Sunshine State.  The nearly 26 mile tour will offer cycling enthusiasts the unique opportunity for a non-stop and closed route ride through some of the most scenic neighborhoods in Palm Beach County,  while offering beautiful views of the Intracoastal Waterway, and of course, that famous South Florida Sunrise.

This opportunity to ride the marathon course offers cyclists other great perks.  Entry in the ride includes an Inaugural Sunrise Bike Tour shirt, a goody bag filled with great items from various sponsors, and finally all finishers will receive a Bike Tour medal.

Cyclists will start the ride at the Marathon start/finish line at the corner of Evernia Street and Flagler Drive in Downtown West Palm Beach at 6:00 A.M. sharp on December 6th, 2009.  The course passes through West Palm Beach, Lake Worth and Lantana, then returns north to finish in downtown West Palm Beach.  This location offers a great venue for all participants to reunite with family and friends, and enjoy food, music, vendor displays and the opportunity to cheer on the Marathon participants.

Additionally, the marathon will include a 10 mile Family Loop that caters to families with children 12 or older. The Family Loop will turn around at mile 5 in Lake Worth and return to finish back at Clematis Street and Narcissus in downtown West Palm Beach.  Children younger than 12 years old can ride with their parents on the same bike or on a trail-a-bike.  Riders on the Family Loop must maintain an average speed of 10 mph.

To provide added convenience to the cycling participants, a staffed bicycle parking area will be designated, allowing for safe and secure storage of bikes while you enjoy the festivities.  Just show your event bib number to park and pick-up your bicycle.

This is an official event of The Palm Beaches Marathon Festival weekend.  The goal is to make this a SAFE and ENJOYABL E experience for participants.  It is important that EVERYONE review the rules and guidelines for the event.

It is important to keep in mind – THIS IS NOT A RACE.  It is a recreational touring event to allow a wide range of cyclists to enjoy a closed course bicycle ride and participants MUST respect the safety of others. Speed will be controlled by bicycle marshal volunteers and law enforcement lead ride vehicles.
Remember, you don’t have to be a Pro.  Just be able to maintain an average speed of 15 mph and complete the course in approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Timing and Speed

The Tour is a non-competitive event.  There will be no official times given to participants.  Participants may use their own devices to time their ride.  Participants must finish in 1 hour and 45 minutes and maintain a minimum speed of 15 mph.  A maximum speed of 25 mph has been established and will be enforced by the bicycle tour marshals and law enforcement personnel.
