Q: Is there an early start for walkers or race walkers? Will there be corrals:
A: No, there will be no early start for walkers. There will be several different timing corrals for runners. The roads will reopen at 12:30 p.m., any remaining walkers on the course will be asked to move to the sidewalks at this time. Walkers are asked to start near the end of the pack to avoid being crowded or bumped.

A: All official entrants will receive a timing chip, along with their race bib number at the Publix Health & Fitness Expo · Failure to return the timing chip after the race will result in a $30 assessment fee

Q: Walkers and Slower Participants:
A: The Palm Beaches Marathon and Half Marathon welcomes walkers and back of the pack runners. A significant number of water stations will remain open later and vans will patrol the route providing support to these participants. We also suggest that walkers and slower participants consider using a fanny pack that accommodates a water bottle. If you plan on participating at a 13 minute 45 second pace per mile or slower, please be aware that our permit dictates that the streets that comprise the Marathon route are re-opened to vehicular traffic. Street cleaning trucks precede the streets re-opening and you will be required to move to the curb lane and/or sidewalk at that time.

Q: Can I switch from the Half Marathon to the Marathon?
A: There will be a $20 processing fee to switch from the Half Marathon to the Marathon. There will be no fee and no refund of fees to switch from the Marathon to the Half or other event. Please contact the Marathon office at (561) 833-3711 ex. 225 to request changes.

Q: Will there be pace teams for the Marathon and Half Marathon?
A: Yes, The Palm Beaches Marathon Festival will provide pace teams for runners who want to achieve a certain time goal. Runners may sign up for the pace teams at the Publix® Health & Fitness Expo, which takes place at the Harriet Himmel Theater at CityPlace. The booth will be located in the lobby area. Pace team leaders will explain where the group will meet. They will also hold up pace team signs on race day at the Meyer Amphitheater starting at least one hour before the race.

Q: Are Ipods with headphones allowed on the course?
A: No, Ipods and other MP3 players are not allowed on the course due to insurance regulations and safety guidelines provided by the USATF.

Q: Can teachers and / or parents run with their kids?
A: We do not suggest teachers or parents run with the students. There will be volunteers on the course to monitor the progress of the students and alert organizers if there are any problems. There will also be police presence and a medical tent if there are any problems.
Children participating in the Kids K whose parents feel that they need to run with their children may accompany them on the course. Teachers will be given complimentary race applications if they wish to run in the 5K, half marathon or full marathon.

Q: Will there be water on the course?
A: No, it is only a mile. There will be water when the students finish at the Meyer Amphitheatre. Students are strongly encouraged to locate one of the recycling bins provided for the event and deposit their empty water bottles there!

Q: When should schools arrive race morning?
A: Schools should plan on their team to arrive at the Meyer Amphitheatre by 8:15 am. Kids warm up exercises with Ronald McDonald begin at 8:45 am.

Q: Where should students report?
A: Each school will be given a number designating placement in the Meyer Amphitheatre. You should direct your students to find the numbered area and stay in place until warm-up exercises begin at 8:45 am. Immediately following the warm-up exercises, schools will be moved to the start/finish line by number in the parade of schools. At this time many schools like to display their school banner or flag. Schools may not run with the banners or flags.

Q: How are the students going to start?
A: The students will run with their school by number. Each school will be assigned a number i.e.: Middle Schools and Elementary Schools. We will break up the races into three Waves. Wave 1 will include Middle Schools and start 9:30 am. Wave 2 will include Elementary Schools (ages 8 – 10) and start at 9:45am. Wave 3 will include Elementary Schools (ages 5 – 7) will start at 10:00 am.

Q: What is the bib number for?
A: To act as an identity tool for parents not only to aid in locating their child, but also as a means to access photos of your child should you wish to purchase one from the website after the race.

Q: How far is the Kids Marathon Mile?
A: 1.2 miles.

Q: How can parents locate their children after the race?
A: Children cannot be accompanied in the race by a parent or legal guardian. The course will be secured with volunteers and parents should plan on meeting their children at the finish line. The distance to run is very short. For children 5 and under we suggest having a parent or older sibling to start the child as well as having a family member already waiting at the finish line to retrieve their child once they have completed the race. All distances are run in heats of small children until all runners have participated. In case a child cannot locate his/her parents they will be escorted to the Meyer stage and the DJ/announcer will make an announcement.

Q: What if it rains?
A: All races will be held rain or shine.

Q: Can schools wear their own T-shirts?
A: All participants will be given a t-shirt to wear. If schools feel the need to wear a certain color t-shirt for organizational purposes, that is fine.

Q: What if a student is walking or jogging?
A: Students should have ample room to walk or jog as the faster runners pass them on the course. These participants should start at the rear in the group they are running with.

Q: What do the kids get with their entry?
A: T-shirt, Finisher’s Medal, Backpack, Bib Number, Goodie Bag and snacks provided by McDonalds.

Q: What about the reading, running and recycling components of the program?
A: There will be a separate log sheet for each aspect of the program provided by the School District. Contact Eric Stern for more details on the reading and running components. For questions about School District recycling policies and procedures, contact Christina Crespo at PX 27602.

Q: Will there be prize money again this year for the most students registered from a school?
A: Yes! We are pleased to announce we have increased the prize money to include 1st place at $1,000 and 2nd place at $500 to be payable to your school’s PE department.
